Do you know how to send text messages? A sms (short message service) is created by pressing the buttons which correspond to the letters wished to type on the keypad of the cell phone it is being sent from. In some cases the keypad may often be a touch screen if the wireless device is a smartphone. Normally, the messages can only consist of a total of 160 characters. Therefore, abbreviations and acronyms are often used to get the point across without taking up so much space in the form of characters. If you need to input more data, characters, or words than allowed for one "piece of mail", you must send the first one, then proceed to start another one which will show up as a second and separate "piece of mail" in the receiver's inbox. Some cell phone and wireless carriers will split the message into two separate ones automatically when you go over the number of allowed characters. When creating a sms text message, you must select a destination for it. In the "To:" box or line, you can either manually type the phone number (including area code if it's long distance) or you can opt to add a previously saved phone number from the contact list of your phone. You can also send this to an email address. You can send one message to multiple recipients simultaneously if desired. To do this simply separate each individual phone number with a comma followed by a space. For example: To: 9095551234, 6265554321, 7145553322. When writing the body of the message, if you find that it takes you a long time to input the characters needed to compose your message, you can opt to use some form of AutoText instead (different phones have different types of auto completion services). This service will predict what word you are going to type after you type the first letter or two in a word. Many people do not prefer this method, however, because of various reasons such as incorrect predictions and confusion. Back to the abbreviations and acronyms that many texters often use to shorten the length of their sms messages as mentioned earlier, let's make sure the difference between an abbreviation and an acronym is clear. Once the message is completed, press "send". Unless your settings are set to automatically delete outbound messages, sent text messages will be stored in the "outbox". If they are incomplete or failed to send, they are stored in the "drafts" box. For messages that are received from other senders, these go in the "inbox".
