People Search Services for Attorneys
I often use phone and people search services in my business because I am an attorney and need to find addresses for service of process and to contact witnesses. Generally I start with free searches on sites like superpages.com and zabasearch.com, but I have also used a variety of subscription or pay-per-search sites like Lexis.com and intellius (not sure if I’m remembering that name correctly.)
I’ve also used these sites to look up old friends. I generally find that it’s difficult to rely on a single site to always provide a current address. Instead, I check several sites, and if the information from different sites matches, I consider it to likely be good information.
I think the last time I used a people search service was to find a person who had requested a court hearing to challenge a finding that she was responsible for child neglect. The name was somewhat common, and zabasearch produced several hits, but only some of them were possibly for the person I was looking for. When I used Lexis, I was able to narrow my search to just a couple of states based on the information I obtained from zabasearch. Lexis clearly showed a string of addresses starting with some that I obtained from zabasearch, and ending in an address that hadn’t appeared on zabasearch. When I tried the last known residence provided by Lexis, I found the person. If you are a lawyer then you will most likely need one of these services at some point.
