Found Out That My Wife Was Cheating

I found out that my wife was cheating through text messages.

The worst part of discovering this unfaithful, betraying, act through text messages was that it had been going on in front of my face without me thinking twice. You’ll be at dinner, let’s say, and your wife will check her phone and plug something into it really quick, and you don’t ever think to ask who it is she’s texting. It’s just a text message. Everybody is texting. I’m very trusting too, so I never would look at my wife’s phone.

But one night, not even looking for any evidence or really interested, I found out that my wife was cheating. I was just fiddling with her cell phone and was just going through the different features when I came upon her text messages. And there were all these texts from this guy named Dan who I never heard of. She had never mentioned him at all, but he seemed to have a special place in her life. The craziest part is there might have been ten texts in a row, but I still wasn’t too alarmed by it. This is that denial that many of us tend to use as a defense mechanism when our partner shows signs of infidelity. You are afraid to go with your gut feelings because you do not want to be hurt.

I never thought it was cheating. But when later I offhandedly asked my wife who Dan was, she went ballistic. She demanded to know why I had been going through her cell phone. And it was during this fight that I found out the extent of their relationship. I was crushed when I found out that my wife was cheating on me, of course. But it was all for the worse because I was so unprepared for it. They were only text messages for goodness sake.
