Find the Owner of a Phone Number

I have in the past needed to find the owner of a phone number, at the beginning of my search I was not sure if it was a cellular or land line. This situation arises most often when I miss a call from a person or a business that I do not recognize and no message is left.
I don't often go to the trouble of finding the caller but recently I have been looking for a new job so I worry that I missed a call from a potential employer. To find the owner of a phone number I usually just enter the telephone # in Google search and hope for a result. There are several websites that function as reverse phone books so it is pretty easy to find who called you. These websites will also tell you what type of number it is, like if it is a cell, business, or land-line. For additional fees you can also find out from these websites the address of the person who called, and who the service provider is.
After having found the identity of the caller I decide if I want to call them back or not. Only a few times was the call from a potential employer or someone I would want to call back. Most of the other callers were telemarketers or automated messages. As a general rule with my experience with unknown callers has led to is: if it is important they will call back or leave a message. That is, professionals or people who actually need to reach you will leave a message or call back while telemarketers don't leave messages.
Another good thing about using the internet to find the owner of a phone number is that tn's used in scams are flagged. I find that this is very useful because it saves you from getting involved in a bad situation. Overall, I think there are very good resources to use for finding out who a phone number belongs to.
